Today I got an email from one of my subscribers asking a question in response to my recent post where I mentioned that Springs “own” the colors yellow and orange. I’ve never seen a Spring not look good in yellow or orange.
She wrote: “I just read the new blog post and wondered, if springs own yellow and orange, what do autumns own…?”
She is a Hot Deep Autumn, by the way.
I responded, “Good question! It might not be the most loved color, but when I think of Autumns, I think of Brown. All shades of brown. Earthy rich browns.
The next two Autumn colors are olive and pumpkin-orange. Lastly, the only season that can really pull off the color mustard-yellow successfully is Autumn.”
I told her this was such a good question I was going to write a blog post about it. Whenever possible, of course, I like to illustrate with some ai images.
By the way, I did create a post a while ago somewhat similar to this one, called “Power Colors" you might find interesting, as well.
One needs only to look at the beautiful Autumn day to see this season’s best colors.
And one of its most abundant colors is Brown. And we aren’t just talking leaves, but the bark on trees and the rich colors of fallen plants as they return to earth.
Dark Brown is Autumn’s best alternative to black. From dark chocolate brown to warm cinnamon brown to every other shade, brown is iconic to Autumns.
As a Warm Autumn myself, I truly wished manufacturers made more clothing choices in brown year-round. Bottom line, Autumns own Brown.
I already talked about the best shade of orange for Autumns in my previous post, so I will talk about the next iconic color, which is olive.
From deep olive, to avocado green to the lightest shades of sage and pea green, olive green is tied to Autumns. You will find those beautiful muted shades of olive in many Autumns’ eyes. Wearing a matching shade of olive will instantly make those eyes pop.
Lastly, as I said previously told my client, the only season that can really pull off the color mustard-yellow successfully are Autumns.
But even some Autumns can find it difficult. Particularly if you are one of the most muted, and ‘cooled down’ Autumns, like Dusty or Smokey Soft Autumn, mustard can be too warm or heavy for you.
Warm Autumns, Toasted and Hot Deep Autumns look great it in. Even this Toasted Autumn above (top right). You don't see the color mustard in the business world too much, but this guy looks totally harmonized.
